Track and Field Meetings

Good day. This coming Monday (March 11th) there will be meetings with Mrs. Goosen for all interested grade 6-8 students. Grade 7 and 8 students will meet at 11:40 up in the weight room. Grade 6 students will meet during their lunch break. If you are interested in participating but cannot make the meeting, please connect with Mrs. Goosen (pgoosen@highroadacademy.com) or myself (skrahn@highroadacademy.com).

For students in grades 9-12 who are interested, please speak with Mr. Krahn before Spring Break starts.

Track and Field

Highroad is looking for a coach or coaches for our senior high track and field athletes (grades 9-12). This would involve coaching athletes in some aspects of track and field (throwing, jumping, sprinting, distance running), with support coming from others. There would also be some travel with the team to meets, mostly held in Abbotsford. If you have an interest in helping us with this team, please contact Shawn Krahn at skrahn@highroadacademy.com.

Highroad has a strong tradition in track and field. We would like to see it continue to be offered as an option for Highroad athletes. What is appreciated is that there are athletes who do not participate in team sports who end up thriving in these activities.

Basketball Jerseys

Could you please return your basketball jerseys as soon as possible? This is for members of the following teams:

Grade 7 boys
Grade 7 girls
Grade 8 boys
Grade 9 boys.

We have over 40 players looking to play on our grade 5/6 teams, and their games start this coming week (February 20th). Highroad will have enough jerseys as long as the ones that are out with our older players get returned quickly.

Jerseys can be dropped off at the school office or brought to Mr. Krahn. Thanks!

(Senior Boys and Girls basketball teams are playing games this coming week. Please keep your jerseys until your season is done.)

Basketball Fees

As we enter playoff season, please check to see if you have paid your athletics fee for being on one of our 6 teams. In the next week I am hoping to make an order of clothing swag for our players. In order to do so, I need to have the fees paid, and the appropriate size for your player. Thank you.

Grade 6 Basketball Season

In the Chilliwack school district, they have a separate Grade 6 basketball season. The goal is to get some playing time for young players. That season will be starting soon, with practices starting even sooner!

Boys will practice on Mondays (3:00 – 4:30 PM) and play games on Tuesdays (3:00 – 5:00 PM, approximately).

Girls will practice on Wednesdays (3:00 – 4:30 PM) and play games on Thursdays (3:00 – 5:00 PM, approximately).

These teams are open to interested players in grades 5 and 6. If you are homeschooling your child and are interested in being a Knight, please contact Shawn Krahn (skrahn@highroadacademy.com). Thanks!

Basketball Season

As volleyball season winds down, basketball season is kicking off. A few practices have been held and it has been good to hear some different ball noises coming from the gym. If you have a son or daughter who is interested in playing, please contact Shawn Krahn (skrahn@highroadacademy.com). Thanks!

PLAYOFFS PART 2!

Most of our volleyball teams have come to the end of their seasons. The grade 7 girls are playing at the Christian Schools tournament on November 15th. It will be at Lions Gate Christian in North Vancouver and will be held during the school day. Lions Gate does not have a large gym but it would be amazing if these girls had some fans supporting them. With the large size of our team, we will be splitting into two teams for competition. Huge thanks to Coach Brian and Team Sponsor Natahsa!

The senior teams have significant playoff games this next week! Credo is hosting the EVAA Single A Volleyball Championships and both teams start with a game on Monday, November 13th. The boys get it started at 6:00 PM when they play Unity. The winner is guaranteed a spot in the provincial championship. And at 7:30 PM, the senior girls play against Credo. Due to the number of teams that were registered for the season, the senior girls face a tougher task to get to provincials.

We would love to have your support on Monday when we play at Credo!

PLAYOFFS!

The grade 8/9 girls team is playing this Wednesday (November 1st) in the final for our league. If we win, we will advance to the EVAA Championship the following week.

Our opponent is GW Graham. The game starts at 3:15 PM. Due to our record throughout the season, Highroad has earned home court advantage. The game is being held in the Highroad gym. If you are able, please come out and support these girls (and their coach) and help give them a legitimate home court bump!

RED OUT!

This Monday we are hopefully starting a new athletic tradition at Highroad: a RED OUT! Both of our senior volleyball teams will be competing on our home court. We do not host many games so when we get to, we would love to make it a significant event: for those who come as fans and for our players.

If you have the evening free, come cheer for the senior volleyball Knights! Wear RED! Temporarily colour your hair RED! Maybe some RED face paint! Having someone see red usually means something else, but we would love for our opponents to see RED because the Knights have excellent fans!

6:00 PM – Senior Boys vs. Sardis
7:30 PM – Senior Girls vs. Unity
