Highroad Basketball Updates

The last two days have seen some great basketball played by our Highroad teams.

On Monday Night our Grade 8 Girls team played a great game against a big and rough team from Hope. Although the girls lost this game, they had one of their best games of the season and finished in 5th place in a 10 team league.

Next up on Monday was our Grade 9 Boys team who played against GWG in the FVESAA Semi-Finals. Highroad has improved each time they have played GWG, but on Monday they came out flying. Starting the Second half with a 1 point lead, the Knights battled hard right to the end of their game but ultimately came up short losing by 2 points in one of their most complete games of the season. The Grade 9 Boys play again on Wednesday night at 5:30 against CSS at Sardis for 3rd place and a berth at the EVAA championships.

On Tuesday Night our Grade 7 Girls team had their final games of the year at the annual CESS tournament hosted by Unity. The girls have battled hard all year and played many close games, winning some and losing others. Today they finished their season with some of their best basketball ultimately finishing 2nd in the 10 team tournament. Congratulations to both the grade 7 and grade 8 girls teams on great basketball seasons!

The final game of the night was a rivalry night with our #2 ranked Sr. Boys team facing off against the #1 ranked team from Unity. Following a OT win by Highroad over Unity (86-83) in the final game of the Island Showdown tournament on Saturday, Highroad hosted the first of two league games against Unity this week. With a crowd of almost 200 people filling the gym at Highroad tonight, the game did not disappoint.

After a quick start from the Flames, the Knights battled back in the first quarter to to tie the game at 17 apiece. The the second quarter featured more back and forth play as Unity started the quarter off strong, but Highroad again battled back to take a 39-34 lead at the half. The Knights outscored the Flames again in the 3rd quarter, but their lead was erased coming down to the closing minutes of the game. With key blocks by Elijah Grimard and clutch shooting by Aidan Morris and Easton Able, the Knights held on to a 72-20 score to win their second straight game over the Flames.

THE REMATCH is on Friday Night, 8 pm at Unity following the Sr. Girls game at 6pm.
