Athletic Awards Evening

On June 16th, at 6:30 PM, we are hosting this year’s athletic awards evening. There will be beverages and desserts! There will be awards! And our hope is that it will be a great time for all who attend.

Tickets are now on sale for $10. After June 9th, tickets go up in price to $15. This is to help us get a better idea of how many people will be coming, in order that we can buy close to the right amount of stuff. Please purchase tickets from the link at the bottom. (Copy and paste in a new window.)

All athletes and families are welcome to attend the evening. Athletes do need to purchase their own ticket. All members of a team who are at the event, will be called up to the stage. After the team awards are given out, a photo will be taken of the team, on stage.

Senior’s Night

The Senior Boys’ team is playing their final game of the season on Monday. The game will be against Fraser Valley Adventist and will start at 6:30 PM (weather permitting). This will be the final home game for our grade 12 players. Please come out and help us recognize Sam, Ethan, Adryan and Matthew for their contribution to basketball at Highroad. We will have a small ceremony at the end of the game.

Monday, February 3

This Monday promises to be interesting! There is a snowfall warning in place, and the snow is already starting to fall. Please check here and the Highroad Academy website to see if school will be cancelled. (If school is cancelled, there will not be a practice tomorrow.)

If we are able to move forward with the scheduled games, there are some significant ones planned. The Junior Girls’ team will be playing their final game against Fraser Valley Adventist. This game will start at 5:00 PM and will be played at Highroad.

The Grade 9 Boys’ team will be playing their first Fraser Valley East (FVE) playoff game. If they win, they will be playing in the Eastern Valley Athletic Association (EVAA) playoffs next week. This game will start at 5:30 PM and will be played at GW Graham.

There is a 3rd significant game. Please see the post above this for details about the Senior Boys’ team final game.

Basketball Help

Are you excited about basketball at Highroad? Do you have some time and interest in seeing our players succeed as Knights? We could use some help in two areas.

  1. Coaching – we would like to have a couple more coaches to support those who are already in place. If you are interested in knowing more information, please email Shawn Krahn (skrahn@highroadacademy.com) or Hannah Wiebe (hwiebe@highroadacademy.com).
  2. Referees – when we host grade 7 and 8 basketball games, the league would appreciate having adult referees. These games would happen between 3:00 and 5:00, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you are able to assist us in this, please contact us (see email addresses above).

Basketball Season!

The end of volleyball season is near. Our senior teams are playing in the playoffs, competing for an EVAA Tier 2 Volleyball banner! If you had a player on one of our other teams, could you please arrange to have their volleyball jersey returned to Highroad? As well, if you have not paid a fee for your player to be on one of our teams, please do so through the school store. (If you are not a Highroad family, please email Shawn Krahn (skrahn@highroadacademy.com) or Hannah Wiebe (hwiebe@highroadacademy.com) for the link.

This year we are hoping to run 7 teams:

Junior Girls (grades 9-10)
Grade 8 Girls
Grade 7 Girls

Senior Boys (grades 10-12)
Grade 9 Boys
Grade 8 Boys
Grade 7 Boys.

As we work out the practice schedule, we will aim to post the expected days and times that practices will be. Please follow here for more information.

BB with the B’s

It is with a fair amount of excitement that I present you with a summer basketball opportunity! I have had three men volunteer to run three-day camps in August: Pastor Barrie Thiessen, Brandon Layton, and Bgeoff Raddatz (the “B” is silent). Brandon and Geoff coached the grade 7 boys this year, but all three have solid basketball toolkits, and are looking to share what they know with as many Highroad players as they can!

The details:

Boys
August 6-8, 2024
6:30 – 8:30 PM
Cost: $30 (which includes receiving a shirt made just for the occasion)

Girls
August 13-15, 2024
6:30 – 8:30 PM
Cost: $30 (which includes receiving a shirt made just for the occasion)

These camps are for players who will be in grades 6-12 in September.

The camp will be held in the Highroad gym. Registration should be done through the Highroad online store. If you have any issues, please email skrahn@highroadacademy.com for assistance.

**The t-shirts were ordered earlier today, but if you register before the camp, a shirt will still be given out. It will be given in September, not at the camp.
