Basketball Season Begins

Quinn Goosen Layup – Nov 21st 2017

Last Night (November 21st) was officially the start of the basketball season at Highroad. The Grade 7 Boys and Girls teams were both in action against Slesse 2 and GWG 1.

Playing at home, the grade 7 boys lost a close game to Slesse 2, but followed that up against a dominant win against GWG 1.

The grade 7 girls played at Slesse and ended up losing both games, but they played very well for such a young team.

The next basketball home game is on December 5th as our Sr. Girls play hope (at 6 pm) and Sr. Boys play BC Christian (at 8pm).

2017 Sr. Boys Soccer Provincials Update

“It was a pretty successful trip to Nakusp.  The sixteen teams that made provincials were put into groups of four.  Each team played the other three teams in their pool.  As soon as we saw the groupings, we knew we were in trouble as two of the teams in our pool were considered favourites to win the tournament.  The boys played both of these teams quite well, but lost to both teams.  We beat the third team in our pool easily.  Finishing third in our pool meant we would end up ninth through twelfth.  We won our fourth game, but lost a very tight game against last year’s champions 2-1.  We ended up 10th.  A pretty fair result considering everything.  I haven’t seen the final results but I think the teams we lost to in pool play finished 1st and 3rd overall.   Stephen Luteyn was named to the Commissioner’s 11 (tournament all-star).  Aside from the great effort on the field, the boys were absolutely stellar in terms of their behaviour.  I’m sure there are a few things I don’t know about, but from refs to coaches to the hotel management, all I heard were compliments.  I’m proud of these young men for rising to the occasion.”
